Howard Chen focuses his practice on commercial litigation. Having practiced in Vancouver, Taiwan and New York and in various areas of the law, Mr. Chen provides a unique perspective representing and advising clients in litigation and transactional matters. Mr. Chen has extensive experience in advising Far Eastern and other non-U.S. based clients concerning U.S. litigation matters and with respect to international commercial disputes, including ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) arbitration matters, intellectual property litigation, licensing disputes, and general commercial matters.
Mr. Chen has also represented clients in disputes concerning syndicated loan agreements, securitized and other financial instruments, duties of corporate fiduciaries, and antitrust. Some of the major litigation matters Mr. Chen has been involved in include defense of trademark infringement claim; representation of a bank in a dispute relating to syndicated loan facility; litigation relating to breach of patent license agreement; dispute arising from patent licensing arrangement and related antitrust issues; dispute concerning ownership and registration of trademarks; breach of contract dispute in ICC arbitration; litigation arising from default of asset-backed securities; enforcement of obligations arising under sovereign debt instruments; defense of major aviation tort claim; litigation relating to securities fraud and breaches of corporate fiduciary duties.
Mr. Chen advised clients in transactional matters relating to license agreements, asset purchase and sale agreements, share purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, and loan agreements.
Mr. Chen is fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese.
